HOUSTON, TX — The Houston Bulls are proud to announce that goaltender Charlie Durkin has officially committed to play NCAA Division I college hockey for Merrimack College in North Andover, Massachusetts.
A native of Glencoe, Illinois, the 6’1” goalie provided a massive boost after joining the team mid-season. Down the stretch, Durkin proved to be an anchor in net, posting a 9-7-0 record, a 2.99 Goals Against Average (GAA), a .906 Save Percentage (SV%), and 2 shutouts.
Durkin credited his rapid development down the stretch to the coaching staff and goaltending instruction during his season with the Bulls:
“I loved my time with the Bulls. Coach Nick and AJ created an amazing environment and gave me a wonderful opportunity,” said Durkin. “AJ was huge for my development—having a dedicated goalie coach on staff to review video and bounce ideas off of resulted in so many improvements in my game.”
Reflecting on his milestone, Durkin expressed gratitude for those who supported his journey:
“First, thank you to my family for always seeing my vision and giving me every opportunity to chase my dream,” Durkin added. “Thank you to all of my coaches—for instilling a strong work ethic in me, and to my Bulls teammates for making me feel right at home. It’s been a path met with adversity and triumph, and I can’t wait for this next chapter at Merrimack.”
The organization echoed Durkin’s sentiment, praising his character and impact both on and off the ice:
“We as an organization could not be more happy for Charlie. From the time he joined our group last season he made everyone around him better! From his goalie partner to our extra forward or defenseman, the way Durks carried himself at the rink and in the community made such a massive impact on our group, and it is something I hope others coming to Houston can emulate.
