The wait is officially over—Houston Bulls hockey has arrived! Since descending upon Space City at the start of September, the players, coaches, and staff have been operating at full throttle both on the ice and across the local community.
From embracing Houston’s rich sports culture to battling through their first junior hockey slate on a national stage, here is a look back at how the Bulls spent their action-packed inaugural month.
Rooted in H-Town: Embracing Space City Sports
Before dropping the puck on their regular season, the Bulls wasted no time getting out to meet their new community and connect with local fans.
The team headed out to Sugar Land for a classic night at the ballpark with the Sugar Land Space Cowboys. Exploring Constellation Field and chatting with fans in the stands gave the roster a warm introduction to Houston’s passionate sports base.
Later in the month, the squad took in a high-energy match at Shell Energy Stadium to support the Houston Dynamo. Soaking in the electric atmosphere, the players had a blast repping the Bulls logo while showing love to their fellow Space City athletes.
On the Ice: September Game Recaps
A Tough Road Test in Shreveport
The Bulls kicked off their regular-season journey with a demanding two-game road clash against their South Division rivals, the Shreveport Mudbugs, at George’s Pond. Both contests featured hard-nosed physicality and fiery divisional action. Despite generating solid offensive looks and battling through tough shifts, the Bulls fell 4-1 in both matchups against a disciplined Mudbugs squad.
Trading Punches with the Brahmas
Next up, the Bulls traveled to North Richland Hills for a thrilling two-game set against the Lone Star Brahmas at NYTEX Sports Centre. Houston set the tone early in Game 1, unleashing a high-powered attack to secure a gritty 5-3 victory and earn a statement divisional win. Lone Star responded in Saturday’s finale with a 3-1 win to force a series split. Leaving North Texas with two hard-earned points, the Bulls proved they can go toe-to-toe with the South Division’s best.
Showcasing the Logo on the Big Stage
To close out the month, the Bulls traveled to Blaine, Minnesota, for the 23rd annual NAHL Showcase at the Super Rink. Known as “The Greatest Show on Ice,” the premier event brought together all league teams in front of hundreds of NHL, NCAA, and junior scouts. Competing across a tough three-game slate against out-of-division opponents, the Bulls gained invaluable experience and wrapped up the week on a massive high note:
-
Game 1: New Hampshire Mountain Kings 5, Houston Bulls 2
-
Game 2: Northeast Generals 4, Houston Bulls 1
-
Game 3: Houston Bulls 7, Minnesota Mallards 5
